Where are you located?
I am in Austin, TX. I moved here almost 8 years ago after 10 years in Amsterdam. I am originally from Poland. Austin is the best city I have ever lived in!
What is your role at Highline?
I lead our recruiting efforts. My main focus is on growing our engineering team. I absolutely love my job!
What’s your background? What did you do before working at Highline?
Prior to Highline I was at a healthcare tech startup, and helped grow the team from 13 to 30 in an early Series A stage. I really enjoyed kicking off their recruiting from scratch, I love being the first recruiter on board. My experience overall is a mix of in-house and agency. Agency was rough but taught me how to grind, never to give up and how to be creative in my searches. My Master thesis was on gestures (I have a degree in linguistics). Thanks to Zoom I’m able to put it to good use!
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
I love spending time with my 9 year old son, Mason (I know everything about Pokemon, Roblox and Imposters). I teach a workout class called barre as a hobby (an absolute miracle as I didn’t do anything for 18 years after high school!) – if you are in Austin hit me up! I also collect red wine and tend to my huge plant collection.
Why did you join the Highline team?
I get that asked a lot in my calls with candidates. It was a combination of two factors for me: the people and the product. Everyone I spoke with was kind and knowledgeable. I also liked that the answer to some of my questions was ‘I don’t know’ which indicated humbleness and honesty – two qualities I really value. When I heard that the hiring bar is high at Highline I tried to understand what the company can offer back. I loved what I heard. Highline is building a new innovative product that brings financial dignity back to consumers. We have very interesting problems to solve. I like that we do not copy from other companies but build everything from scratch. I am about to hit my 1st year here and things are only getting better!
What has been the most rewarding aspect so far?
Working on very niche roles and being able to fill them. I love when we have new starters joining us, seeing how warmly they are welcomed and how much support they get. I am surrounded by very knowledgeable people and really appreciate how much I learn from them. I work with some of the healthiest communicators I have ever met.
What do you think the future of fintech holds?
I love the fact that the fintech domain holds unlimited opportunities and is very consumer-centric. By offering new solutions people’s lives can get easier and they can sleep better at night.
