Where are you located?

I am located in sunny Summerville, South Carolina, United States.

What is your role at Highline?

Officially, I am “Director of Engineering, Product”, but my role is to make sure that developers, both our employees and our clients, are happy with our product. I work closely with our Product Manager, Adam, and our engineering team to ensure that our API, Portals, and Web components are a delight to work with.

What’s your background? What did you do before working at Highline?

Like many my age, my software journey started with learning Basic on a Commodore64 that my father brought home when I was in 4th grade. Being able to write code to make the computer do what I wanted  was empowering. I was hooked; an instant computer geek and a tech junkie for life! I have now been writing software professionally for a quarter of a century. I have been a self-employed consultant, a  software developer on large teams,  the sole technical resource in a startup, as well as director of teams of software developers. I find my talents lie in being flexible, being able to learn fast, and being able to communicate effectively. 

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

Outside of work I am an avid gamer. I love board, card, table-top rpg, and video games; especially games with fair and well thought-out systems that allow for strategy over luck. I spend my free time gaming and camping with my wife, two sons, and two bearded dragons.

Why did you join the Highline team?

I have always loved the challenge and excitement of the startup environment. Couple that with both a great mission and an all-star leadership team, I was sold.

What has been the most rewarding aspect so far?

After a couple decades, finally finding a workplace without ego or politics! It is truly inspiring to work with this team every day.

What do you think the future of fintech holds?

Income as a stream or feed that we let lenders and purchasers tap into. I think Highline is bringing us closer to that.
